If He Had Not Come | Juvenile Book Review

This short story is a great addition to family time in and around the upcoming Christmas season.  A young boy, after having a devotional with his father before bed on Christmas eve, wakes to find what a world would be like had Jesus not come.  It would be a world where no one knew what Christmas was...it would be an ordinary day...there would be no churches, nor need of any.  And that is only the beginning.  The world, as we know it, would never be the same.

I must admit that upon my first reading of this story, I found it hard to imagine a world that, without Jesus, would have no orphanages, no hospitals, and no homeless shelters.  But, after thinking on it, it was a reminder of all that Jesus did when He came.  He brought hope and love into this lost and dying world.  Without that hope and love, who knows to what depths of hopelessness and change this world would know.  

Though to some it may, this story may be far fetched, the truth is, without Christ, we would all be lost in a world of sin.  This is a simple, yet thought-provoking story that helps to remind us all just how important it was that Jesus came.

This story also comes with a great discussion guide in the back of the book, which would be a fantastic way to use this as a family devotional.  The e-book that I reviewed had a little bit of a confusing layout with the illustrations not correctly corresponding to the story, but I would imagine the print version would be much better.
