Sin + How Christ Cleanses It | Bible Object Lesson
I was recently looking for a visual way to portray the Gospel to my group of K-2nd grade AWANA Sparks (but trust me, it's just as effective for adults!)...
I ran across THIS VIDEO on YouTube that used a simple chemical reaction to show how Christ cleanses us from our sin. I had to do some searching to find what was in each jar, but after finding what the ingredients were, it was simple to get the verses and lesson ready to go! Here's how I used the illustration (maybe it will save you a little prep time):
Have
3 Glass Jars/Vases (filled and labeled prior to the lesson beginning):
1) Us: Water (I used about 10 oz, but be sure your container is large enough to add more liquid to -- mine was half full with 10 oz).
2) Sin:
Water + Iodine (enough iodine to make it very dark/blackish)
3) Christ:
Water + Bleach (I added about an ounce of bleach to my 10 oz water)
1. What is
Sin? Anything
we think, say, or do, that displeases God.
2. Who
sins? We do!
a.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of
the glory of God.
b. Romans 3:10 There is
none righteous, no, not one;
c.
1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
**Add {some but not all} “SIN” to “US” jar.**
3. Who is NOT
able to sin? Christ.
a.
1 John 1:5 God is light, and in him is
no darkness at all.
b. 2 Corinthians
5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might
become the righteousness of God in Him.
c.
Hebrews 7:26
For such an
high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners,
and made higher than the heavens;
d. 1 Peter 1:19 But with the
precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot
**Add {some but not all} “SIN” to “CHRIST” jar.**
4. Our
punishment for our sin is death.
a.
Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and
death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned–
b. Romans 6:23 For the
wages of sin [is] death, but the gift of God [is] eternal life in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
5. But, because
God loved us so much, He sent His only Son to die for our sin!
a.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life.
b. Romans 5:8 But God
demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
6. So, when we
do sin, we can pray and ask for forgiveness.
Christ washes away our sins.
**Add {some but not all} “CHRIST” to “US” jar.**
7. Can Christ
wash away all sin, or just certain
ones? What about the really bad sins? Can Christ forgive and wash away even those? ALL
have sinned…NONE are righteous. Christ
died for the sins of the entire world.
All sin, is sin, in God’s eyes. He
died so that He could justify the sins of each of us…you and me…but also, for
the sins of the whole world.
**Add {the rest of } “CHRIST”
to “SIN” jar. **
